Fawkes the Phoenix by TrollGirl Fawkes the Phoenix by TrollGirl
I wanted to make a phoenix for a while, and a friend asked me to make a red bird, so it worked out well for me :D

Brass and enamel and a ridiculous amount of sawing.

Uh, you know, the usual way to make enamel...mix the medium and the pigment, pour with a toothpick, wait till it solidifies? :D

Do you mean the glass enamel? If it was glass wouldn't just stick to any surface when it cools, if its a sort of plastic solution that would work.

I stick duct tape on the back of the metal frame into which i pour the enamel, and when it hardens i just peel the tape off.

It's really beautiful, I love the fire colours and the transparency :) ! I'm learning jewellery making and I'd love to learn how to do enamels, can I ask you what type of enamel it is, do you need to bake it?
Have you learn all of your techniques by yourself, or did you go to a specialized school ^^ ?

Well, i have a teacher, but he pretty much lets us do whatever we like. I need him cause he has a workshop and i don't own a welding torch. The enamel is also his so i dont remember how's it called, but it's cold-type enamel, no need for baking, it can dry naturally.

Yeah, it's just the same for me, I cannot work at home because I don't have a workbench, a rolling mill or a welding torch... Soon, I hope...
Thanks a lot for your answer, I'll try to use this type of enamel as soon as I can :) .
